Cree Bagley is 21 and is originally from a small town in Washington. We met at the beginning of this semester and soon discovered we share more than one class together. Cree is in her fourth year at Hawaii Pacific University and is expecting to acquire her Journalism degree in May 2015. She was previously an English major, but decided to take a slightly different path after realizing she wanted to do more with her life than just teach (as most people with English degrees tend to become). She is a very ethnically diverse individual with English, Irish, Spanish, Black and Native American Cherokee blood running through her veins. Cree has one older brother and a very close-knit relationship with her mom.
How Cree ended up coming to Hawaii for school will give you a better understanding of what kind of person she really is. One of the reasons she decided to come to Hawaii for school was because she didn't get in to her top colleges and another was that because she is from a small town, she noticed people had a tendency to get "stuck" there and she knew that she had to get out before that same pattern happened to her. Which lead her to literally pulling out a map and finding the two furthest points of the United States that she would be interested in going to: New York City or Hawaii. Unfortunately, her plans with the university in NYC didn't go through, which then brought her to Plan B--the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
Cree has a free spirit and enjoys to do a wide variety of things, from hiking and going to the beach to staying in and reading a good book in her bed. As most college students, she frequently likes to take long naps and fill her stomach with delicious food whenever she can while trying to keep up her grades and maintaining a decent social life. She is currently unemployed, which is okay because school is a handful in itself, although her past employers include working at Forever 21, Gap and a hostess at a restaurant in her hometown.
She hopes to one day be like, if not an exact replica of, her mom because of how "non-traditional" she is in the ways that she carries herself, thinks outside the box and embraces who she is despite what other people may say or not say. When asked what three words would describe her best, she replied with "1. Caring, 2. Shy (although I would beg to differ) and 3. 'Quiet, but doesn't take anyone's shit'."
Cree has many dreams--traveling all over Southeast Asia someday, especially Thailand, writing for her favorite magazine and maybe even starting her own. Good luck with all your future endeavors, Cree!
